For over a decade, Boundary Waters has been providing the leading screen printing service to the local community. Screen printing is a technique where a mesh is used to transfer ink onto apparel and accessories like shirts, sweatshirts, hoodies, tote bags, and so on. Our modern equipment allows us to print six crisp, vibrant colors in a single design. Bulk or single-item orders are available.
Our embroidery artists are experts at decorating clothing with patterns or pictures sewn directly onto the material. Customized names, custom designs, logos, patches, and just about anything else can be embroidered. We can even attach Velcro to your embroidery work for easy placement and removal!
Boundary Waters owner Michael Karns has been creating custom artwork for over 35 years. He graduated with an art degree from the University of Osh Kosh and moved to California for better business opportunities—well, that and the surfing! Michael can create custom artwork as part of an in-house job or for any media you may need.

Boundary Waters is a family owned and operated business. Artist Michael Karns and his wife Lisa, his children Trevor and Heather, and his two friends Duggan and Josh… but we all know that the friendly family dogs Bear, Dexter, and Max are the ones really running the show here!
Michael Karns graduated from the University of Wisconsin with a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in Graphic Design and Illustration. Michael is known for his award-winning work, easygoing personality, and dedication to quality.
In addition to her impeccably amazing managing skills, Lisa is the resident Jack-of-all-trades. Our projects are a success thanks to her dedication to both customer service and keeping things running smoothly behind the scenes.
Trevor joined the Boundary Waters team just a year after its inception when Michael needed the extra help. Since then, the father-and-son team have been working together. Trevor’s precision while printing has ensured that the quality of each print be no less than perfect.
Bleu, Michael’s daughter, shares her father’s artistic eye—this is readily apparent in her excellent embroidery work. Her attention to detail will always ensure that you have the best looking product possible!
Duggan is nothing short of a master at screen printing. You’ll usually find him manning the equipment in the shop, checking to make sure everything is perfect. He is also a talented laser printer for our popular leather patches.
Josh is the latest addition to the Boundary Waters team, but his dedication to quality makes it seem like he’s been here from the beginning. You’ll find him doing an amazing job at screenprinting!
Maggie is the key to making sure Boundary Waters stays in tip-top shape thanks to her bookkeeping skills. Her attention to detail makes her by far the best bookkeeper around and we couldn’t run the shop without her!
When you visit, you’re sure to meet at least one of the real bosses at Boundary Waters: Bear (left), Dexter (middle), or Max (right) are all lovely, friendly dogs—give them a pat on the head!
